  Chapter 21

  Day 2 at the love shack started out with donuts and juice in the cabin after we brushed our teeth and put clothes on.

  He smiled that smile and said, “Be honest, Roxi, you would go anywhere with me.”

  I kissed him, he was right.

  We got ready for the boat ride. I had no idea what we would do on a boat, but Chase’s uncle and aunt took us down the river until we found a sand bar to picnic at. Chase helped his uncle tie off the boat and I helped his aunt get the food out and ready.

  I said, “Thank you so much for taking us out on the river today, I had a great time!”

  Chase’s Aunt Risa said, “No problem, we go out on the boat all the time, and have really enjoyed getting to know you, Roxi.”

  Risa and Roy sure were sweet people. I liked the fact that I would know a couple of faces at the family reunion (set for the next day).

  We had a perfect picnic and climbed back on the boat for a little tubing fun before heading back to camp.

  We helped unload the stuff from the boat and drove back to the cabin right after exchanging hugs from Aunt Risa and Uncle Roy.

  I heard Roy whispering to Chase, “You got a great girl, treat her right.”

  We sat our stuff in the truck and headed back to the cabin. We were holding hands while driving down the road. Smiling and not having to say a word. We both knew what was about to happen.

  I hugged him and he climbed in the truck and headed home. It sure was nice of his Dad to lend us his truck for the last 3 days. Chase had such a sweet family, no wonder why he turned out so great.

  Chapter 23

  Mom came into the kitchen and I hugged her. I told her, “I can’t believe I will only live at home for 43 more days.” She teared up and we hugged again. As I suspected, it was going to be just as hard on Mom as it was on me to not be home anymore.

  Mom jokingly said, “Maybe I should go with you….” I giggled. I understood though. We have had such a great relationship and now more of a friendship, so I knew that it was going to be difficult.

  Mom said, “Tell me about Chase.”

  I got excited! Just talking about him, my voice gets louder and louder and I couldn’t stop smiling.

  I explained, “Chase has a great family, I met his Mom and Dad, grandparents Sydney & Dixie, his favorite Aunt Risa, and Uncle Roy, and about 50 relatives! He has 2 sisters, one older and one younger, Carolina and Celina. Carolina got engaged to Nathan a few months ago, so everyone at the reunion was excited to hear the wedding plans. Celina is still in high school. Okay, Chase details: he is tall, dark, handsome, over 6 foot tall, very muscular, has his lifeguard certification from the Red Cross, he has saved 5 people in two years from almost drowning to death at the pool, he loves Italian food, chocolate, rock and country music, comes from a great family that has their own private campground!! I love him. He is enrolled at a trade school in the same town as Mikayla and I will be living in for college! He gave me a promise ring, he actually told everyone at the family reunion that he was going to marry me! He is really only waiting for Mikayla and Conner to tie the knot for us to have our turn! I know that he loves you, he has talked at length with both your Dad and me about how much he loves you. Most 18-year-olds don’t know what love is, but I believe you both do….”

  I squealed with happy revelation. Mom knows how I feel. Then she said, “What’s on the agenda for tomorrow?”

  I explained, “Chase is working at the pool until 2, and we would all meet up at the pool to hang out. I thought the guys were making plans for after the pool, but I hadn’t asked what or where we will go yet. I know we will eat dinner together someplace.”

  Mom said, “That sounds like another fun night!” I am sure it will be!

  I went to my room and put away some clean laundry and then throw another load in the washer and switched loads from washer to dryer. I cleaned up and organized more stuff in my college boxes, then my phone tinged.

  Chase declared: “I miss you already, see you at the pool tomorrow, wear that green bikini.”

  It tinged again. Mikayla texted: “Want to carpool to the pool tomorrow? Lol, miss u.”

  I wrote Chase back: “I will wear that bikini if you wear your red swim shorts and we can re-enact a scene from Baywatch after you finish work. Lol”

  Chase immediately replied: “Yes master! Your wish is my command.”

  I smiled as I wrote back: “Oh, let’s do an “I Dream of Jeannie” date soon too!”

  Chase sent a slew of emoticons.

  I texted Mikalya back: “Sounds great! Have you already asked Jacki?”

  Mikayla texted: “Just sent her one. She is game.”

  I replied: “Perfect! THX”

  I ran to switch laundry and folded more stuff from the camping adventure and got everything back into its place. I was still smiling to myself. I didn’t even notice Dad had come and sat on my bed while I was rummaging through the shelves in my closet.

  Dad cleared his throat.

  I peeked out and smiled at him, “Dad, I didn’t know you were in my room.”

  He said, “I thought I should see for myself the progress you have made on getting ready to move to college. I can’t believe my baby girl is going to college. Doesn’t seem right, you will always be my little girl. I am so proud of you and so excited for you and so sad for me and Mom!”

  I giggled, “Dad, you know I will only be a couple of hours away, it’s not like I picked a college o
n one of the coasts over 18 hours away or anything!”

  He said, “I know sweetheart, but Mom and I just like to make sure you are safe. We think the easiest way to keep you safe is to have you living at home and this will be a big adjustment for us.”

  I smiled and sat next to him and hugged him. He tried to be tough but in times like these, I remembered he was just trying to protect me as any good Daddy would.

  I said, “43 days, Dad. 43 days left at home and then my next adventure starts!!! You and Mom have taught me right from wrong, how to look out for myself, how to balance a budget, how to study and be prepared, and I think I can figure out everything else as I go. I know I can call for help if I need it, you guys have always been there for me. I will have Mikayla too, and we are practically sisters, so I won’t be alone. Plus, Chase just told me he enrolled in the trade school there too! He will be living in an apartment and I will be at the dorm with Mikayla. I am seriously so excited to see what unfolds over the next few years! Did you know Conner proposed to Mikayla? They are planning a wedding next summer! I have a feeling my wedding won’t be far behind theirs. Dad, I am crazy about Chase…”

  Dad said, “That man is crazy about you too. I can see it every time he comes here to get you, and we have had some rather serious talks about it too.”

  I nudged him… “Daddy.”

  He smiled, “Come on sweetheart let’s get some food.”

  I followed him to the kitchen, it was time for nachos. Dad’s specialty. He always made them with Velveeta, salsa, and milk. His dip was super delicious, one of my favorite snacks. I had been sharing nachos with Dad since I was about 2. I loved this tradition.

  We ate our nachos and watched a little tv before calling it a night.

  I took a quick shower, put on my favorite jammies and grabbed my journal and jumped in bed.

  43 days left, Mom and Dad are adjusting to the idea, and I am realizing how much I will miss our family traditions but I am still super excited to see everything that will happen to all of us in the next few years.
